It has been a busy week for fire rescue teams in Northern Colorado when it comes to saving animals from falling through the ice. Two dogs were rescued in Fort Collins in two different incidents at two separate bodies of water.

Now a large animal has been rescued by the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority off South County Road 13. Late Thursday afternoon, Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, Berthoud Fire Protection, Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Thompson Valley EMS, and the City of Loveland responded to the scene where a horse fell through the ice on a pond.

Horse Rescued From The Ice in Larimer County, Colorado

The horse somehow found its way through a fence and onto a frozen pond. The ice could not hold the horse's weight and gave way, and the horse fell through in the middle of the pond.

Firefighters in ice rescue suits made their way to the horse by breaking a path through the ice with axes and sledgehammers. Those firefighters were eventually able to make their way to the horse and walk the large animal to the shore.

Once the horse was safely brought back to dry ground from the icy water, it started to warm up and recover. Photos of the rescue were posted on Facebook by Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and can be seen below.
