
Fort Collins’ Plan for a Fun Little Venue to Take Over Old Parking Lot
When a location in any Colorado city begins being more of a eyesore than being of use, it's good when a plan is hatched to make use of that sight. Fort Collins has a plan for a long-closed Albertsons location; technically, the parking lot of that Albertsons.
How Long Has the Albertsons on North College Been Closed?
Between competition from a nearby King Soopers and Walmart, and a Costco in Timnath, the Albertsons on North College was finally closed in January of 2014. 11 years later, the City of Fort Collins Urban Renewal Authority (URA) purchased the 50,000 square-foot building, and its 4.6-acre site.
What's the Plan for the Old Albertsons in Fort Collins?
While decisions and plans are made for what will actually happen to the old Albertsons, the Fort Collins URA, according to the Coloradoan, plans of having a venue occupy the parking lot area of the site. Picture a stage, seating, food trucks, an artificial turf "park" area. To me, it would almost resemble The Exchange at College and Jefferson, but on a temporary basis.

That North College area does have its own little "vibe," The Lyric doing all sorts of community events, New Belgium and Odell's being nearby, Bringing in this little venue space, if OK'd, will be a great destination space for locals and those around the Northern Colorado area. Whether it be for a food truck festival, a concert (both,) a farmers market, or just a place to hang and enjoy the day.
