Colorado Coach Betting Favorite To Take Top Dallas Cowboys Job
The news broke yesterday that Mike McCarthy would not return as Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys. This is something that has been speculated now for the last few years, with him eventually returning each year.
However shortly before the Vikings-Rams playoff game on Monday Night Football, the news broke that McCarthy was out, and a step further, that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has had conversations about the vacancy with Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, a.k.a. Coach Prime.
While Sanders has said publicly he loves Boulder and being the coach at CU, many people are speculating that regardless of how he may feel about Boulder, he's still going to end up as the coach of the Cowboys. Sanders played for Dallas the year they won their last Super Bowl and he remains close with Jones.
Sportsbooks across the United States now have Coach Prime as the betting favorite to land the gig, at +100. A +100 value essentially implies a 50/50 chance that he ends up being the next coach, at least in the eyes of people betting on it.
The one sticking point may be that Sanders has also publicly said that if he ends up making the jump to the NFL, he's like to continue to coach his son as the team's quarterback. Dallas holds the #12 pick in the 2025 draft and Shedeur Sanders - Deion's son - is projected to go as the the number one pick.
Will Dallas trade up to be able to draft him? Time will tell!
