What’s the Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded in Grand Junction

Over the past few summers in Grand Junction, July weather has everyone running for shade. Just a few years ago, a new high temperature rewrote weather history on the Western Slope when temperatures soared to 107 degrees.

Grand Junction's official all-time high of 107°F was set on July 17, 2023. Fruita reached 108°F that same day, as did Palisade. Our neighbors in Delta recorded 107 degrees on July 17, 2023, and Montrose peaked at 106 degrees on July 11, 2021. These records indicate that the lower valleys along the Colorado and Gunnison rivers are among the hottest locations in the state during long summer heatwaves.

Grand Junction's Longest Stretch of 100-Degree Days

Triple-digit heat seems to be our thing lately in July. Grand Junction’s record for consecutive 100-degree days stands at 10, from July 10-19, 2023. That streak included the all-time high of 107. When overnight temperatures can’t cool off, the heat builds day after day in the valley. Currently, Grand Junction has reached 97 degrees or higher for the last 10 consecutive days (July 4-14, 2026). Same streak, same time of year, just a few degrees lower.

If Grand Junction were at the top of Grand Mesa, July would be far more comfortable. Since it’s in the valley, the semi-arid climate, sunshine, and dry air make it easy for temperatures to climb quickly during the day. During major heatwaves, warm overnights stop the valley from cooling off. This is what brings those record-breaking afternoons, and what makes Grand Junction one of Colorado’s warmest places.
