Grand Junction Shelter on Brink of Closure Gets Lifeline Thanks to Local Donations
Unfortunately, homelessness is a serious issue in Colorado and beyond, and winter is easily the most difficult time to live on the streets in the Centennial State.
It was announced fairly recently that a homeless shelter in Grand Junction called HomewardBound of the Grand Valley has been struggling to stay open because of financial reasons and will likely have to close its doors for good eventually.
However, it was also recently announced that after a fundraising effort, the shelter will continue to provide its services to homeless individuals in Grand Junction until at least the end of February 2026.
Grand Junction Colorado Homeless Shelter’s Successful Fundraiser
On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the official Facebook page of HomewardBound of the Grand Valley published a post announcing that the shelter had successfully raised enough money to stay open through February.
The post was accompanied by the following caption:
We are happy to announce that with our community support, we have raised the money needed to operate our North Avenue Shelter through the end of February. Thank you to everyone who has helped us during this time, we are immensely grateful for your support!
This was the third fundraising effort in the last several months. The first fundraiser took place at the end of 2025, which saw the shelter raise $150,000 and allowed the shelter to remain open between the months of October and December, and was followed by another fundraiser for $60,000, which funded the shelter to remain open through January.
